Tell us your favorite HIBT episode and you might hear your voice on the show! Here’s how.

Episode Summary

The host, Grace Guy, asked listeners to submit voice memos sharing their favorite How I Built This episodes. Several listeners responded with thoughtful reflections on episodes that inspired them. One listener, Grace from Reston, Virginia, couldn't pick just one favorite, but she found Jamie Simonoff's story of overcoming crisis at Ring impactful. It showed how "moments of grace in the darkest of times can make all the difference." Other listeners highlighted the Airbnb episode on perseverance, the Spanx founder's story of defying naysayers, and Danny Meyer's perspective shift on problems. Grace Guy enjoys spreading joy by airing these listener reflections. She invites more favorite episode submissions under 30 seconds to hibt@id.wonder.com. The team will include excerpts in future episode ad breaks as a way to showcase the supportive How I Built This community.

Episode Transcript

SPEAKER_01: Hi, Guy. My name is Grace and I'm from Reston, Virginia. I have too many favorite episodes. I can't possibly pick just one, but I will never forget where I was when I heard Jamie Simonoff from Ring talk about the crisis that almost crushed his company and then how his wife responded. I learned how moments of grace in the darkest of times can make all the difference in the world. SPEAKER_02: Wow, that is such a nice note from Grace. Thank you. And yeah, we all love that episode too. I'm Grace Guy, by the way, here. And ever since I asked listeners to submit voice memos of their favorite episodes, we've gotten some incredible responses like the one you just heard. It's a nice way to spread a little joy and to put your voice on our show. Here, let me play you a few more. SPEAKER_04: Without a doubt, my favorite episode of all time is the Airbnb one. I think back often to them selling Obama and McCain cereal as the definition of doing whatever it takes to keep your business alive for just one more day. SPEAKER_03: My favorite episode was with Sarah Blakely from Spanx. When she brought her idea for a footless pantyhose to the manufacturer, they thought that she was crazy and that nobody would want it. And when I first submitted my product idea to a manufacturer, they thought the same thing. SPEAKER_00: My favorite episode is the one with Danny Meyer of Shake Shack. And it's especially the part where he says that in order to be in business, you have to learn to love problems. It changed my whole perspective on how I run my business. SPEAKER_02: And if you want to submit your favorite episodes, grab your smartphone and record a short memo like less than 30 seconds and tell us your name, where you live, and which episode is your favorite and why. Then email it to hibt at id.wonder.com. H-I-B-T at id.wonder.com. And we'll share some of your favorites in the ad breaks in future episodes. And thank you so much. As I've said before, and I'll say it again, you guys are the best.
